I have to agree with her. Other than the fact that the black/monkey thing is totally an American issue, it is not an issue that warrants this much attention. Even if it did deserve any attention, the backlash should have been pointed at the parent(s) because H&M simply made the top…the parent(s) allowed the child to model it.

H&M did not include any fine print that indicated that the top was for black people or aimed at mocking any group.

Stop holding your self captive to stereotypes and name-calling. They’re only effective if you allow them to affect you.

Stop crying wolf on non-issues so that when a real issue comes about, it won’t be deemed just another rant.

Certainly no one is asking permission or guidance on whether it’s okay for us to take offense to this and make clear that its unacceptable. No one dares to question any other community that believes its been maligned in the media or in some other way. And clearly you didn’t trouble yourself to pay very much attention at all because many did ALSO question why the parents would allow their child to model this particular sweater. H&M is a multimillion-dollar brand. I have no doubt that a multimillion-dollar brand would take great care to avoid making a similar ‘mistake’ with the Jewish community or with the LGBTQ community. Going forward they should do the same in regard to the black community. Its this type of propaganda that is subtlely, persistently suggested (globally, historically) and lends easily to larger and more consequential ‘issues’ in the black community. Regardless of the severity of circumstance, outside input is typically the same, shut up and be a ‘cool monkey’. Save it. Black people are not the ones held captive by the stereotype that we’re monkeys. This type of ad is for all the good folk that are so sure this is a benign, non-issue. Unless you’re a part of this community you do not have a say in what is deemed as offensive to this community. The outrage over this ad is not an appeal to you or anyone else for attention or consensus that this is unacceptable.

If the word monkey upsets you so, you need therapy to unearth your real problem.
Would you have composed that ridiculous pile of blather had the model been brown or yellow?
Save the excitement for actual issues.

        • 1phillychick

But that’s just it; the word Monkey is NOT the issue but the context in which it has historically AND CURRENTLY been used to denigrate black folks. It’s not blather simply because it does not offend you. The word ‘fag’ means cigarette in other cultures. Bet dollars to donuts, many wouldn’t find it offensive if they put it on the sweatshirt of a gay person- but many would and it wouldn’t be ‘blather’ for those offended. You miss the point entirely by asking would it have been blather if the model had been brown or yellow. Change the word Monkey to ‘Spic or Gook’ (sorry to even have to write those words) and THEN ask the question. Sheesh! It’s truly not that difficult to understand even if you don’t agree of feel offended.

          • noideaisoriginal

Exaaaactly… But feigning ignorance is always the way to go!!!

          • 1phillychick

There are countless members of our community that are outraged. You would think that THINKING people would see this and if uniformed- seek to educate themselves. Instead, we get the old ‘images are only offensive if you allow them to offend you.’ *Sigh* This would make sense if those images/comparisons weren’t used to denigrate and subjugate an entire race of people for GENERATIONS. But alas, some folks wish to remain ignorant for ignorance is much easier and less burdensome than empathy- or at the very least, understanding.

          • noideaisoriginal

Nope! Cuz that would force self reflection, and they hate that shit. It’s easier to call us “too sensitive” and say we’re bringing up a “race card”.

            Nonsense.

          • ♥Sugar&Spice♥

Explain to me the offensive context that you gathered from the sweatshirt.

          • ♥Sugar&Spice♥

Lol again, you just enjoy being angry and claiming victim. I understand that position can be very addictive. Just try to not force it onto too many others. It’s pathetic.

          • 1phillychick

I can explain it to you- or you can claim that I (and others) enjoy being angry. Which one would you like? Not going to do the former if you truly believe the latter. You can’t claim ignorance WHILE projecting that people just ‘want to be mad’ as if we have no reason to be angry SIMPLY because you do not understand/recognize it. Pick a struggle.

          • ♥Sugar&Spice♥

Baby, go ahead and be mad. LOL IDK why you decided that we’re at war. I commented, you hate my comment. I’m still good. Get happy.

            Goodnight! 🙂

          • 1phillychick

Boo, you don’t rate enough for me to be ‘mad’. I feel sorry for you and your ignorance. War? You asked a question and then processed to try and disparage. You need to figure out what you want.To be willfully ignorant is not cute. But mad? Not even. You take care!

          • ♥Sugar&Spice♥

I rate enough for you to stalk my comments all day. I’m glad though because I know you secretly wrote some good points down…like seeking therapy and getting happy.

            Good luck, honeypie! 🙂

          • 1phillychick

It’s called a ‘notification’, you dear, idiot sandwich- as in, I get one every time you come post your clueless drivel. No such thing as stalking ( sorry to disappoint you in how much you truly don’t rate) when I’m being notified. You should read up on them-notifications, I mean- or would you like me to explain the context of that as well? So glad you are seeking therapy though! You got one right, sweetheart! 😉

          • ♥Sugar&Spice♥

Lol You talk tough when a simple word brings you to your knees…monkey! 😊

          • 1phillychick

And you talk like your momma should have swallowed you, cunt.

          • ♥Sugar&Spice♥

There’s that anger again. 😂 woo sah, babe!
            🐒🙊🙉🙈🐵

          • 1phillychick

So it was anger because I didn’t put a smiley face behind it? You are ever the jackass, aren’t you? Presumptuous little twit. 🙂 There, I’m laughing AT you, not with you. Sad little darling…

          • ♥Sugar&Spice♥

So I’m a jackass but if I call you monkey you’d just die. Interesting.

No it was angry because if your words…not the lack of emojis.

You sure are bright . 🙄

          • 1phillychick

You called me a monkey… I didn’t die, dummy. Still here. But what it did was demonstrate that you knew exactly what was offensive about the term and context for which you claimed you needed an explanation. My words are just words- you can imply emotion behind them but that’s not a fact. I am no more angry than I was when you opined it at first take. Just because you say a thing doesn’t make it so. Your jackassery though, has nothing to do with me. You simply are what you are- and have proven to be. I AM bright though, thanks! (I’ll give you a few moments to google the words you didn’t understand.)

          • ♥Sugar&Spice♥

Lol you’re fun to fuck with, you fuckwit.

Nice meeting you. Hope you have a happier life, going forward. ✌🏼

          • 1phillychick

Happier life to you, also, cum stain. Take your time, read slowly and practice comprehension and you’ll be smarter in addition to happier. trust me, it’s a good thing 😉

      • ♥Sugar&Spice♥

And by the way, I don’t need your permission nor approval to feel how I feel about it. Attack you personal issues; not me.

        Thanks 🙃

        • noideaisoriginal

Firstly, it seems that you think blacks were only called monkeys in America. That right there shows you have no clue what you’re talking about, and should at least research what the issues are before your spewing of self righteous bullshit.

Secondly, you’re right, you do have a right to your opinion. And we have every right to tell you to GTFOWTBS… And we will!!! 😘😘😘

          • ♥Sugar&Spice♥

😂😂😜 you’re so happy being a stupid, angry victim. Carry on, babe.

It’s still just s word on a sweatshirt, though. 😂

I would say go read up on evolution, but I doubt you read other than gossip and bait blogs. 👍🏼

          • noideaisoriginal

I’m sorry, you’re so far removed from current and previous world events, have no knowledge of systemic oppression or stereotypes, and I’M the stupid one? No Dear, the only dunce here is you. And while I don’t understand your determination to be a vapid, condescending know-nothing, I admire your commitment to it.

No one can tell you what to say or think, yet you feel you have the right to silence others? Minimize their feelings so YOU don’t have to hear what they’re saying?

You’re right, it’s me. I’M the dumb one.

            FOH.

          • 1phillychick

Nope. It is most assuredly NOT you.

          • ♥Sugar&Spice♥

You’re just depressed. The sweatshirt is not that deep. Smh

Put a white kid in it and tell me you feel offended still.

            OMG

          • noideaisoriginal

That’s the point you gotdamn rocket scientist. “Monkey” has been used as a disparaging comparison to black people for centuries.

Intelligence and awareness can often bring about depression, especially when forced to live on a planet w your goofy ass and the goofy asses like you.

          • ♥Sugar&Spice♥

Again, you’re depressed and angry. This shirt says nothing about black people. Are you saying that monkey is a trigger for you, just on its own?
How then do you manage when you visit the zoo?
Get therapy if you’re bothered by the word but do not attack everyone who uses it, or who do not find it offensive.
I don’t have to be angry with you, boo. Keep that shit to your self. 👍🏼😊🙃

          • ♥Sugar&Spice♥

Got it. Monkey is your trigger and anyone who uses it, is your enemy.

            Thanks.

I’m guessing you’re being paid to pretend you’re dumb aka troll. LOL Good job.

            Have a great night.

Diddy needs to take his offer back don’t give her shit since she dont think that way let her keep struggling

    • 1phillychick

Agreed. If she isn’t wise enough to see why H & M received this backlash, he needs to employ some other little kids so that they understand they don’t have to settle to do what they love. In her mind, there is no settling and thus, no issue. Keep movin’ Diddy!

Sometimes that coon blood runs too deep to see the true motive… #getout

Just because it went over her head, and she may not understand doesn’t mean that they weren’t trying to be disrespectful. Know our history.
